TBD - Washington Scottish to Play in
"100 PIPERS FOR 100 YEARS" Parade.
2009 marks the 100 year AYPE centennial celebration happening right here in
Seattle! Being the oldest pipe band in Washington state, meant our compulsory
observance
and participation in this once in a lifetime event. If you belong to a pipe band,
or are an individual piper or drummer, you will definitely not want to miss this
parade!

June 7 - Bellingham Highland Games
Starting in 1961, these games are held at historic Hovander Farm in Ferndale,
and are considered one of the most scenic games on the Coast to attend and to compete.
Farmhouse, museum, orchards, tree-bordered competition field, hedgerows, blacksmith,
and petting zoo lend to interests beyond the traditional Highland Games events.
May 2 - Columbia Lutheran Home
This nursing home facility
near Woodland Park in Seattle has been on our performance list
for several years. Band member, Bob Wood's, mother-in-law
was a resident there. She referred to her daughter as the person
married to the bagpiper. Robin MacRae's Dancers enhance
our performance to the profound appreciation of the residents
in attendance.
April 5 - WPA Mini-Gathering
We played our Medley for comments
at this competition held monthly from January through May. It
is an opportunity to see what needs work and to visit with pipers
and drummers in a friendly setting.
March 22 - Clan Gordon Tartan Ball
It has been a few years since we've performed at the Clan Gordon Tartan Ball held
at the fairgrounds in Puyallup. The focus is on fun, making this
one of the favorite events of the year - even if you're
just part of the audience. Performing is icing on the cake. Again
Robin Macrae's dancers enhanced our performance and our
rousing Scotland the Brave was a definite hit. A special thanks
to Jim McGillivray for helping us out!
St. Patrick's Day Weekend
March 15 - Arbor Place.
This was our first performance at Arbor Place, a retirement home
near Silver Lake in south Everett. We marched into the lounge
with pipes and drums commanding everyone’s attention. The audience was
delighted, however, by the immediate appearance of two-year-old Finlay racing
after piper/dad Ken MacRae. Following Finlay were the Robin MacRae dancers who
provide great support to our performances and whose participating is truly appreciated.
Thanks to their Activities Coordinator, Bonnie McMahon (mother of drummer Brady
McMahon) for the assortment of refreshments, much welcomed and appreciated.
March 15 - Owl 'n Thistle Pub.
Early evening found us at this college-friendly pub for our second annual performance.
We played several sets and then thoroughly enjoyed their stouts, ales and Irish fare.
March 17 - Apogee.
The Apogee in Renton is another family-friendly location with separate bar and restaurant areas.
The Band played late afternoon and into the night, welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd. Our repertoire
of Irish tunes was greeted with cheers, applause, and generous tips.
March 17 - Mulleady's Irish Pub.
At 19:00, Jim Guthrie and Ken MacRae left Apogee to meet Roy
Cotton and Jeff Smith at Mulleady’s
in the gentrified Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. This was
originally a bakery built c. 1890. They were encouraged by a long line of
people waiting outside around the block. Our group played between 8 and 9,
had a great time and
received accolades from the owner and hundreds of patrons. Definitely
a do-againer.
January 26 - Burns Dinner.
The
annual Robbie Burns Dinner, commemorating the birth of Scotland’s
Bard, has been on the Washington Scottish calendar for many years.
The dinner was sponsored by the Scottish Rite Masons and held
at their temple on Capitol Hill in downtown Seattle until 2006.
In 2007 the Masons
joined with the St. Andrews and Caledonian Society and the dinner
is now held at the Nile Golf and Country Club in Mountlake Terrace.
We presented our new
livelier Scotland the Brave, complete with Dancers from Robin
MacRae’s
School of Highland Dance. It brought people out of their seats
to join in with whoops, hollers, and wild applause.

December 1 - Langley Holiday Parade.
With snow in the forecast, we ferried over to Whidbey Island
to participate in the “First annual” Langley
Holiday Parade. Warmed with complementary coffee from the Chef’s
Pantry, we marched in freezing winds. Not to be disappointed,
the snow began to fall
soon after the parade started. We then performed at various locations
on First Street, retiring to the Doghouse Restaurant for a late
lunch and thawing. We
hope to make this an annual event.
